THE BEGINNING

Squash On Fire was born by a love of parents for their daughter, who in turn fell in love with the game of squash at the age of 10.

When the family traveled, they always took Squash racquets with them, and played and competed all over the over the US, Europe, and even Egypt, playing in small urban squash clubs to beautiful luxurious ones. As an urban developer also following trends, Anthony Lanier, saw the rise of specialist sports, and also wanted to support this hard-core physical sport and bring it out of sweaty badly vented clubs, and elite suburban private clubs.

One day he saw the opportunity to incorporate a squash club into one of his projects in Georgetown. He challenged his architect, Enrique Norton from Mexico City, to include a squash facility, into a project which also held a separate housing component, as well as a fire station!

Together Enrique, Anthony, Isabel and their team, which included the tremendous assistance of many people and designers, such as Vitra Furnishings from Switzerland, and Ingo Maurer as lighting designer, this project born out of passion and frustration, became todays Squash On Fire.
